Information We May Collect

The nonpublic personal information we collect may include, but is not limited to, your name, address, telephone number, email address, Social Security number, date of birth, and your donations and recommendations to TIAA Charitable®. We may use this information in connection with certain aspects of our operations.

We may obtain this information from an application or other form you have completed, from information you have chosen to disclose at our website,, or from any other source. 


When you visit our site, we may collect information about your use of our site through "cookies." Cookies are small bits of information transferred to your computer's hard drive that allow us to know how often a user visits our site and the activities they are most interested in performing. We require the acceptance of cookies to enable users to take full advantage of specific services offered. We may also require you to accept cookies placed by a third-party supporting this activity on our behalf.

The cookies collect certain technical and navigational information only, such as computer browser type, Internet Protocol (IP) address, pages visited and average time spent on our websites. When you use a link to go from to another website, the Online Privacy Notice is no longer in effect. Your browsing and interaction on any other website is subject to the rules and policies of that site. We encourage you to read the rules and policies of the sites you visit to further understand their procedures for collecting, using and disclosing personal information.

How Your Information Is Used

We use your personal information primarily to provide you with records of your donations, including any investments, gifts or any other purposes for which we have used your donations. 

Disclosure of Your Information

We share your personal information with third-parties for the following purposes:

TIAA Charitable has contracted with Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association of America ("TIAA") to provide administrative and other services. TIAA provides many day-to-day services for TIAA Charitable, including administrative, marketing, finance, legal, IT, procurement, distribution, and any other services we may request for our operations. Please note that TIAA Charitable is not owned by, or affiliated with, TIAA or any of its subsidiaries.

TIAA Charitable has contracted with TIAA, FSB to provide certain custodial services, which include holding assets or delegating the custody of assets to other entities, including other custodian banks, broker/dealers or clearing corporations. TIAA Charitable has also contracted with TIAA, FSB to provide limited investment advisory services, including guidance on how to maintain a range of low-cost, mutual fund-based investment options and program fund selection and oversight of such options.

TIAA Charitable has also contracted with third-party providers to provide certain additional services including grantmaking and recordkeeping services, processing services, statement generation and mailing, account creation, management reports, as well as certain technical and operational support. You may be requested by such third-party providers to accept their terms and conditions of use and/or end-user license agreements for software used to manage and operate your TIAA Charitable account. 

We will only disclose your personal information as referenced above unless: 1) we have received proper consent from you; 2) we would like to acknowledge your interest in TIAA Charitable to the person or company that made a referral to us on your behalf, in which case we will only disclose your name and state of residence; 3) we are legally permitted to do so; or 4) we reasonably believe, in good faith, that we are legally required to do so. In order to protect the confidentiality of your personal information, including personal information that we have disclosed to a third-party pursuant to this Online Privacy Notice, we take appropriate measures, including requiring each third-party service provider to execute an appropriate confidentiality agreement governing the use of such information and only allowing access to the information for a limited purpose.

We require that third-party service providers with which we share your personal information protect such information by utilizing the privacy and security safeguards required by law.

Security of Your Information

TIAA Charitable protects the personal information you provide against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, destruction, loss or misuse. Your personal information is protected by physical, electronic and procedural safeguards in accordance with applicable legal standards. These safeguards include appropriate procedures for access and use of electronic data, provisions for the secure transmission of sensitive personal information on our website and telephone system authentication procedures. Additionally, we limit access to your personal information to those TIAA Charitable employees and agents who need your personal information in order to administer your donations.

Children's Privacy Online

This website is not directed toward children. We do not knowingly collect or post information from children under the age of 18.

Changes in Our Privacy Notice

TIAA Charitable periodically reviews its policies, and we reserve the right to amend them. If we amend this Online Privacy Notice, we will continue our commitment to maintaining the security and privacy of your personal information. We will notify you of material changes when they take effect through a banner notice on our website.

How to Change or Correct Your Personal Information

To change information such as your name, address, telephone number, email address or other personal information, you can update your information securely online within your Giving Fund or by calling our phone center at 800-392-4420 Monday - Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. (ET) and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. - 6 p.m. (ET).

Internet Tracking Disclosure

We do not have the protocol that offers you the choice to opt-out of Internet tracking. You may reset your web browser to enable Do Not Track functionality if your browser supports it.

Contributions to the Giving Fund are irrevocable. All recommendations from donors are subject to review and approval by TIAA Charitable.
